Rapper Mike Check, a Greenport native, has just released a new video for his song “Stand Up” — an anthem about realizing what you are really meant to do for a living instead of compromising life for a job you hate.

Shot last November at Greenport School and locations in New York City, parts of the video feature Greenport kids standing outside of the school, lip synching these lyrics: “Trying hard to speak and fighting with my weak hand, driven to distraction, so part of the plan."

"It felt good to send a message to kids out there with little opportunity to not be afraid to follow their dream," Check said. "I'm from the middle of nowhere just like them, and had a couple people inspire me when I was younger, so I hope I could do the same for them."

Some of Check’s work has been published previously on blogs such as 2dopeboyz.com, Nahright.com, and Freeonsmash.com. He said that the next record he's set to release is called "Pedestal."
