Watch: Climb To The Top of Horton Point Lighthouse

The lighthouse is a piece of Southold history.

Horton Point Lighthouse, first created when George Washington ordered the construction of the structure in 1797 to guide ships sailing from Boston to New York City, is piece of Southold history.

Now, the lighthouse-turned-museum and park at the end of Lighthouse Road is frequented by locals and visitors seeking a glimpe into maritime history as well as expansive views of Long Island Sound from atop a rocky bluff.

Southold Park District maintains the park and the Southold Historical Society runs the museum. The grounds can be used for picnics and small wedding ceremonies.
