Benefit to Help Baymen Get 'Webby' Features Local Talent

A good time was had by all attending the benefit event for the Southold Baymen's Association at Four Doors Down Restaurant in Mattituck.

in Mattituck hosted a benefit for the Southold Baymen's Association on Saturday night to help build a much-needed web presence for the Baymen. About 80 tickets were sold and the event raised about $500 for local fishermen.

Larrin and The Locomotives opened the show with both original tunes and a few covers thrown in. Larrin has been performing solo for the last five years and is very happy to be joined with her newly formed band.

Taost's performance was the main event of the evening. This high energy-band kicked the evening into second gear. Taost's music is self-described as "good time psychedelic rock with punk sensibilities." Taost's four members — Fred Bell, Darren Mignone, Dwayne Carlson and Kyle Mealy — skillfully weave jam-band spontaneity with a punk sensibility.

Joe Allegue and friends were the last performers to take the stage. Joe's vocals and guitar playing kept the audience rocking late into the night. A highlight of the evening was Allegue's cover of Simon and Garfunkel's classic tune "America."

"The event was a well-balanced night of music," said Taost guitarist Darren Mignone. "We were very pleased to be able to showcase local, original artists and the original music scene on the North Fork."

Dwayne Carlson, another Taost member, uses www.elioms.blogspot.com to promote the original music scene on the East End, and Mignone added that he hopes to continue to work with Four Doors Down and local wineries in the future on a monthly or weekly basis to promote the North Fork's original music scene while helping local causes.

The Peconic Bay region is one of only 28 federally designated National Estuaries in the entire U.S. According to the Baymen's Facebook page, "nobody understands the delicate ecosystem better than the men and women who earn their living on these waters. An organized internet presence will help the organization in dealing with government officials and agencies, aid in efforts to raise both awareness and funds for ongoing projects, and help in reaching out to the local community."
