Lightning Sparks Shelter Island House Fire

There were no injuries in a lightning-induced Thursday night blaze on Shore Road on Shelter Island.

No one was injured in fire started by a lightning strike at a residence on Shore Road on Shelter Island shortly after 7 p.m., according to fire authorities.

A garage was consumed by flames at the location, said neighbor Kate Davidson, who was evacuated by fire crews along with her two sons to a neighbor's house as firefighters worked to douse the flames.

"The backyard garage was burnt to the ground," Davidson said. "They are summer residents so no one was home."
