SCWA Drops Turbine Proposal at Laurel Lake

A 150-foot wind turbine proposed for the that had locals up in arms over the winter will not move forward, according to a Newsday article.

In January, neighbors largely disapproved of the proposal - put forth by the Suffolk County Water Authority - at a public hearing at .

A financial analysis concluded that the $500,000 turbine, which the , would take 20 years to pay off, leading to doubts about how worthwhile the proposal was.

The report quotes SCWA Board Chairman James Gaughran as saying the following: "Our original estimate was that the payback period would be at most 12 years. Now we're being told it will be 20 years or even more."
