• A 27-year-old employee of Hampton Hearth and Patio on Route 25 in Southold reported to Southold Town Police on Jan. 28 that someone stole $300 from a desk drawer of the retail store some time between Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. and Jan. 28 at 11 a.m., police said. Police said that entry was made through the front door which was locked but was jiggled open. Investigation of the incident continues, police said.

• The owner of Mattituck Laundry reported to police on Jan. 26 at 2:14 a.m. that someone had entered an unlocked area of the building located behind Handy Pantry on Route 25 in Mattituck around 12:45 a.m. that morning, unsuccessfully tried to break through a wall connecting two different areas of the laundromat, smashed a front plateglass window, and kicked in the door to the office, police said. When police arrived at the scene, the rear door was open but nothing appeared to be missing, police said. The incident resulted in $250 worth of damage and is still being investigated, police said.

• A Mattituck Park District employee reported to police on Jan. 25 that three lawns in three separate parks — Veterans Memorial on Bay Avenue, Mattituck Yacht Club on Peconic Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue Park — had been damaged by someone who drove on the grass and did doughnuts, police said. The employee told police that he believes the damage occurred some time between Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 25 at 7 a.m. and requested extra patrols, police said.
