Hold Your Horses — Hamptons Classic Starts Wednesday

Originally scheduled to start Sunday, August 28th, the Hampton Classic horse show has now scheduled horses to begin arriving on Tuesday after noon.

Hurricane Irene is already having an impact on the horse world, even though the skies are without a cloud, delaying the Hampton Classic's start until Wednesday.

The Classic is the iconic equine event and preparations for horse and rider began, for some, more than a year ago. Horses are shipped in from countries around the world.

After evaluating all the options, Shanette Barth Cohen, director of the Hampton Classic, decided to disassemble all of the barn and tent structures and reconstruct them after the storm has passed.

"Our conversations with the National Weather Service and the Town of Southampton's head of emergency management have made it clear to us that we need to be prepared for hurricane force winds," said Shanette Barth Cohen. Monday's event, ASPCA Adoption Day is being developed into a cyber event, and the famous $250,000 FTI Grand Prix will be held on Sunday.

The remainder of the week looks to have beautiful weather so stay tuned for further updates as they become available.
