Does Agritourism Detract From Wine?

After announcing that the tasting room at Peconic Bay Winery in Cutchogue will close its daily operations and move them to the vineyard's Riverhead location at Tanger Mall, manager Jim Silver said that agritourism was not profitable and detracted from the wine tasting experience.

For years, Peconic Bay Winery was one of the more visible stops on the Wine Trail for those looking for entertainment alongside the tasting experience.

“To be honest, the agritourism aspect we were dealing with in Cutchogue is not nearly as profitable as you would image it would be and was not beneficial to the branding of our wine," Silver told Patch on Monday.
