Crimes Nearby: Arrests Made at DWI Check Points

Miller Place-Rocky Point

Steven Guiffre, 48, of Mt. Sinai, was arrested July 16 in Mt. Sinai and charged with petty larceny. Guiffre allegedly stole a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner between on from Kohl’s in Rocky Point on June 24.

Randolph Joseph, 26, of Rocky Point, was arrested July 16 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with second degree robbery. Joseph allegedly attempted to rob an individual on Main Street, Port Jefferson Station at approximately 5 a.m. by punching and kicking the victim on his face, head and body.

Lisa Kelly, 46, of Miller Place, was arrested July 15 in Selden and charged with petty larceny. Kelly was arrested at College Plaza, Selden at approximately 11:30 a.m. for allegedly putting five uniform shirts and one pair of uniform pants into her purse while she was in the fitting room of Life Uniform Store and leaving the store without paying for them.

RIVERHEAD

• Southampton Town Police report that on Monday at 3:28 p.m. on County Road 51 in Riverside, Denzel T. Faines, 21, of Medford was arrested after he allegedly drove erratically and lost control of his vehicle, crashing through the median and causing his vehicle to become damaged and disabled. Upon investigation, police say it was learned that Faines was allegedly impaired by drugs. Police charged Faines with driving while impaired by drugs, a felony, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, a misdemeanor. He was held for morning arraignment.

• On Saturday night, nine arrests were made in Riverhead by the East End DWI task force, in an effort to tackle drunk driving.Riverhead Town Police report that on Saturday night, seven were arrested and charged with DWI. Police also arrested one individual and charged him with driving while ability impaired and reported one arrest for unlawful possession of marijuana. The seven charged with DWI include Juan Perez, 50, of Riverhead, Otto Zeller, 33, of Huntington, Amilcar Cano, 28, of Greenport, who was charged with DWI and resisting arrest, John Stark, 42, of Southold, Eusebio Plato, 38, of Riverhead, Farrow Sims, Jr., 19, of Calverton, and Mark Sims, 42, of Riverhead. Riverhead Police also arrested Melissa McMoore, 21, of Greenport and charged her with unlawful possession of marijuana, as well as Jamesport resident Philip Ashley, 72, who was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS
• August Rose Thilberg, 19, of Hampton Bays, was arrested July 18 at police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, a felony. Police said Thilberg turned herself in to answer of charge of causing $3,100 in damage to a 2007 BMW 328 on Aug. 6, 2011 on Woodleigh Place in East Quogue.

• Timothy Ryan Jordan, 21, of Hampton Bays was arrested July 22 at 1:15 a.m. on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, and driving without a plate lamp, a vehicle infraction. Police said Jordan was found to be in possession of cocaine.

• On July 14 at 10:50 p.m. Westhampton Beach Police charged Ezequeiel Top-Borrayo, 30, of Hampton Bays with felony DWI. Police say Top-Borrayo was involved in a minor car accident on Montauk Highway. Police also charged Top-Borrayo with felony aggravated unlicensed. Police say he had a prior DWI and his car was seized under the Suffolk County DWI seizure law.
Top-Borrayo's passenger, Israel Caal Teteu, 34, of Westhampton was also charged during the incident. Police say he attempted to leave the scene of the accident and was charged with obstructing governmental administration.

• Westhampton Beach police filed a misdemeanor DWI charge against Pasquale Decicco Jr., 32, of Shirley, who was involved in an accident on Old Riverhead Road on June 27. Police say a toxicology report came back indicating that Decicco had been drinking.



SOUTHAMPTON

• say they are looking for two men who sexually assaulted a woman walking in Southampton early Sunday morning. According to police, a 38-year-old woman was walking eastbound on County Road 39 near the Elks Lodge around 4:30 a.m. when the two Hispanic men grabbed her, dragged her into a nearby wooded area and assaulted her. The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for further evaluation, police said. Meanwhile, town police and Suffolk County Police aviation conducted a search of the area in conjunction with the Riverhead Police K-9 Unit, but were unsuccessful.

• Guido N. Arevalo, 29, of Bridgehampton, was arrested July 19 at 9:26 p.m. at Corwith Avenue and Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, both misdemeanors; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and failing to stop as a stop sign, a traffic infraction. Police said Arevalo’s license was revoked and there were two bench warrants for his arrest.



EAST HAMPTON

• James W. Griffiths, 20, of East Hampton, was arrested after he was found sleeping in the northbound lane of Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road in Springs on July 21, just before the fireworks show. A driver called police when he almost hit Griffiths. Police found that Griffiths appeared intoxicated and he was unable to tell them his name or where he resided. Griffiths did give police his identification — a forged Virginia driver's license. He was placed under arrest at about 4:30 a.m. and put into the back of a police car. He then kicked the back passenger window twice, with his feet, shattering the window. Later that morning, Griffiths was arraigned on three charges; third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, also a felony, and disorderly conduct, a violation. However, the arrest report said that less than $200 worth of damage was done to the police car, and third-degree criminal mischief is used when more than $250 in damage is done. He was released on his own recognizance.

• While police were trying to give Bennett J. Kireker, 27, of New York City, a ticket for urinating in public, he took off, leading to his arrest on July 21. Police said they saw Kireker urinating behind the Memory Motel in Montauk at about 2 a.m., and approached him to issue a ticket for violating town code. As he was asked to show his identification, he fled on foot, but tripped and fell. Police told him to put his hands above his head, but he flailed his arms and kicked his legs, police said. He was subdued and while police were conducting a search, they found a small glass vial of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. Kireker reportedly refused medical attention for some minor scratches on his head. After an arraignment, he was released on $500 bail.

• Philippe Mao, 48, of Brooklyn, was arrested on a charge of boating while intoxicated, as a second offense, in East Hampton on July 21. Town police said that Mao operated a 2009 inflatable dinghy boat with a 15 HP outboard motor with an expired New York registration in an easterly direction on the west side of the channel in Three Mile Harbor by the East Hampton Point Marina. He was arrested at about 8:35 p.m. Held overnight for arraignment, he was released on his own recognizance the next day.
