10 Places to Take the Kids During Holiday Break
The wrapping paper and bows are gone and the kids are begging to get out of the house. Here's a list of places to take them.
The holiday vacation is under way and the kids are starting to get restless. Here’s a list of 10 things to do while the kids are out of school.
- Visit the Greenport Ice Skating Rink in Mitchell Park. The rink will be open daily during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.
- Go take in an afternoon matinee at the Mattituck Cinema. They have a few movies geared toward children this week and will have afternoon shows.
- Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport will have a free showing of Kung Fu Panda 2 Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
- Paint some pottery at Greenport Art & Design. Know some crafty kids? Greenport Art & Design will be open during the week.
- Even in the winter months, the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in Riverhead has a lot going on. If you have never stopped by the exhibits in the winter, this is the perfect week to show the kids how animals fare as the seasons change.
- The Long Island Science Center in Riverhead will also be open during the week. The program offered during the week is In the Mind’s Eye/Light Color & Optics.
- Tweens can try a free yoga class at The Giving Room in Southold on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. This class is open for kids age 7 and up.
- With the weather holding out, the North Fork has plenty of nature trails to check out. Laurel Lake Preserve in Laurel, Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island, Inlet Pond County Park in Greenport, Dam Pond Preserve in East Marion, and South Harbor Park (Emerson) in Southold all have well-kept trails and are appropriate for all ages to explore.
- If your little ones crave adventure, Safari Adventure in Riverhead will also be open during the week. Watch your little ones play on the jungle equipment, earn tickets on video games, or slide down the large inflatable slides.
- If your little ones are still enjoying the holidays, take them to Gingerbread University in Baiting Hollow and help them decorate a gingerbread house or giant cookie. Call 631-727-7309 to schedule an appointment.
